Title/Name/Summary
153rd Street and Ravinia Avenue Intersection Improvements, Phase 1 RFP 21-022, Contract Award
History
In the Village of Orland Park, Ravinia Avenue functions as a bypass roadway to La Grange Road between 143rd Street and 159th Street. It serves several important functions including providing access to Village Hall complex, Police Department, businesses and residential developments along Ravinia Avenue, and reducing traffic pressure on La Grange Road. With the completion of Roundabout project at 147th Street in 2019 and 151st Street improvements which will be completed later this year, the only intersection that still requires improvements along Ravinia Avenue is at 153rd Street. In 2013, the intersection of 153rd Street and Ravinia Avenue was upgraded from a 4-way stop controlled intersection to a signalized intersection. Signal heads were mounted on wire spans and wood poles. Pedestrian facilities were not improved at that time.
The scope of this Phase 1 study is to analyze current and future traffic conditions at the intersection, improve pedestrian facilities (crosswalks, sidewalks, and multi-use paths), and upgrade/improve traffic signal infrastructure. This project, when completed, will complete needed improvements along Ravinia Avenue between 143rd Street and 159th Street. Completion of Phase 1 study will further assist the Village in applying for funding for Phase 2 Design, Phase 3 Construction Engineering, and construction costs. The selected consultant will assist the Village (included in the scope of services) in submitting for these funding opportunities through IDOT, CMAP, and other sources.
